What is the Last-Meter Gap? +

The Last-Meter Gap is the final 30–100 centimeters of soil above a buried asset — the zone where no passive mechanical protection currently exists. Even with perfect procedural compliance (811/One-Call, marking, training), the pipeline is protected only by human behavior at this point. Visual markers disappear, depth perception fails in wet conditions, and human reaction time is insufficient to stop a hydraulic bucket before contact occurs. DigBarrier™ was designed specifically to close this physical gap.

Does DigBarrier™ interfere with tracer wire locatability? +

No. HDPE is electrically neutral and does not interfere with tracer wire signals or Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) readings. Locatability of the buried asset is preserved after DigBarrier™ installation. This is one of the critical success criteria for any pilot program evaluation.

How does DigBarrier™ affect installation speed? +

The plates are placed by hand during the standard backfill process — no tools, fasteners, or specialized equipment required. The interlocking male/female tab system allows rapid coverage of any trench width. Target installation impact: neutral — meaning no significant delay to the open-inspect-backfill cycle.

Is DigBarrier™ a replacement for 811 / One-Call programs? +

No. DigBarrier™ complements existing damage-prevention measures — it does not replace them. 811/One-Call is the first line of defense. DigBarrier™ is the physical last line. The presence of DigBarrier™ does not reduce excavator responsibilities for notification, marking, or soft-digging within tolerance zones.

What is the regulatory defensibility value of DigBarrier™? +

When an excavation incident occurs despite procedural compliance, the presence of DigBarrier™ enables an additional defensible position: "A reasonable physical protective measure was in place to mitigate foreseeable third-party damage." This reframes the regulatory narrative from procedural failure to residual risk despite mitigation — a fundamentally stronger position in post-incident reviews, audits, and regulatory proceedings.

Where is DigBarrier™ applicable in Latin America? +

DigBarrier™ is applicable in LATAM where multiple risk factors converge: recurrent third-party excavation, urban/peri-urban environments, shallow or variable cover, legacy installations, and utility crossings. It is particularly relevant for gas distribution networks (Colombia, México, Brasil, Argentina, Chile, Perú), telecom fiber trunk routes in dense urban corridors, and civil contractors working in active rights-of-way.
